Personalized Access: Tool Access by Grade and Subject

Org Admins at Edlink-connected districts can now configure which tools are available to teachers based on grade level and subject area, giving districts more control over delivering the right AI experiences to the right teachers.

What's new?
Org Admins can now:

  • Configure tool access by grade level and subject area from the existing Tool Access page

  • Set restrictions that apply org-wide or per individual site, depending on their admin role

  • Lock specific grades or subjects so site admins cannot override them

Access is evaluated across three dimensions (site, grade, and subject), and a teacher will only see a tool when all three allow it.

How does access work?
Admins configure this from the Tool Access page by clicking the edit icon on any tool row. Tab visibility depends on admin role; org admins see all three tabs (Sites, Grades, Subjects); single-site admins see Grades and Subjects only.

Class Writing Feedback: PDF Exports

We’ve introduced PDF exports for Class Writing Feedback, giving teachers a flexible new way to share feedback with students—especially in workflows where direct LMS syncing isn’t available. This enterprise-only feature can be enabled at the org level and is now live for testing.

Why this matters
With the addition of Canvas and Schoology integrations, teachers needed a reliable way to get feedback out of MagicSchool and into students’ hands. PDF exports fill that gap, ensuring feedback can still be easily distributed regardless of LMS limitations.

What’s new

  • Export feedback as PDFs for any approved submission

  • Works across all submission sources (Google Drive, Classroom, OneDrive, Canvas, Schoology)

  • Download individual submissions or export in bulk as a ZIP file

  • Customize which feedback types are included before downloading

  • Unlimited downloads—no restrictions like one-time sharing

Important notes

  • Enterprise-only feature; must be enabled at the org level

  • PDFs include feedback only (not the original student submission)

  • Exports are available after submissions are approved

  • Users must complete a privacy acknowledgement before downloading

This update ensures teachers always have a simple, consistent way to deliver feedback to students—no matter which tools their district uses.

Class Writing Feedback: Canvas + Schoology Integrations

We’ve expanded Class Writing Feedback to support Canvas and Schoology as new submission sources, giving enterprise districts more flexibility in how they bring student writing into MagicSchool. When enabled at the org level, teachers can import submissions directly from their LMS—no reliance on Google or Microsoft ecosystems required.

Why this matters
Not every district uses Google Classroom or OneDrive. This update meets schools where they are, making it easier to leverage Class Writing Feedback within existing LMS workflows and broaden adoption across more classrooms.

What’s new

  • Canvas and Schoology can now be selected as submission sources

  • Supports plain text, Word (.doc/.docx), and PDF submissions

  • Familiar import flow aligned with the existing Google Classroom experience

Important notes

  • Enterprise-only feature; must be enabled at the org level

  • Feedback export is currently supported via PDF download (if enabled)

  • Direct grade/feedback sync back to Canvas/Schoology is not yet supported

This release continues to make Class Writing Feedback more flexible and accessible—so more teachers can deliver high-quality writing support, regardless of their district’s tech stack.

Podcast Generator

What’s new

We’ve launched a brand-new creative tool that makes it easy for teachers to generate fully produced, educational podcast episodes right inside MagicSchool.

Just provide a topic, grade level, and format, and the tool will generate:

  • A complete, curriculum-aligned script

  • AI-generated audio with natural-sounding voices

  • Auto-generated podcast cover art

You can choose from formats like:

  • Classroom explainers

  • Storytelling

  • News briefs

  • Interviews

  • Debates

And once created, episodes can be played, downloaded, and reused anytime.

Why this matters

Teachers have asked for engaging, audio-based content, but creating it has been time-consuming or inaccessible. Podcast Generator changes that.

Now you can:

  • Support auditory learners

  • Differentiate instruction with zero prep

  • Add engaging audio to lessons, centers, or homework

  • Build a reusable library of content tailored to your classroom

This also marks a big step forward for MagicSchool in bringing multimodal (not just text-based) AI into everyday teaching workflows.

Enhancements to Rubrics in Class Writing Feedback

What’s new
We’ve expanded rubric support in Class Writing Feedback to better reflect how teachers actually grade. Rubrics now support variable point values, including point ranges, different performance levels per criterion, and the ability to assign any point value (including 0). Teachers can still fully customize criteria and performance levels when creating or editing rubrics.

Why this matters
Teachers are no longer constrained to rigid, one-size-fits-all rubrics. With more flexibility to match real grading practices, it’s easier to create or upload rubrics that align with classroom expectations—making feedback more accurate, meaningful, and usable.

Custom Student Tools

What’s new
Org Admins can now create, manage, and distribute custom Enterprise Student Tools. Admins can build tools from any base student tool in the catalog and control access by site—enabling them for all sites, selected sites, or keeping them off by default until ready.

Why this matters
Districts now have full control over the student AI experience, not just teacher tools. This makes it easier to roll out safe, consistent, and high-quality student use cases at scale—removing a key barrier to expanding MagicStudent across schools.

Org Admins can create Enterprise Student Tools in the Enterprise Tools section of the platform.

Enterprise Student Tools are off by default until an admin explicitly enables site access.

Aligned Insights: Quizzes + Class Writing Feedback

What’s new
We’ve unified the insights experience across Quizzes and Class Writing Feedback. Both now share the same structure and layout, including Overall Assessment, Strengths, Areas for Growth, and Celebrations, so teachers see a consistent, predictable format.

Quizzes now include a dedicated insights page (in addition to the snapshot), and Class Writing Feedback now offers actionable Next Steps with recommended student rooms and teacher tools.

Why this matters
Teachers no longer have to relearn how to interpret insights across different features. With a consistent experience and clearer next steps, it’s easier to quickly understand student performance and take action—whether reviewing a quiz or analyzing writing. This update also sets the stage for deeper insights experiences, including upcoming tools that allow teachers to interact directly with their data.

Microsoft OneDrive support for Class Writing Feedback

We've added Microsoft OneDrive support to Class Writing Feedback, expanding compatibility beyond Google Drive and unlocking this workflow for districts that run on Microsoft ecosystems. This update helps move CWF closer to supporting both major school technology stacks used across districts.

Enhancements to Study Bot tool

What’s new
We’ve enhanced the Study Bot tool's ability to generate math diagrams, especially when working with larger uploaded files. Improvements to instruction handling help the AI better retain context and follow through on student requests.

Why this matters
Students get more accurate, reliable support when working through math problems, even with complex or content-heavy materials—making Study Bot a more dependable study companion.

Improvements to YouTube Video Questions

What’s new
We’ve improved the reliability of the YouTube Video Questions tool to better follow teacher inputs. The tool now generates questions only in the selected question type, responds in the user’s language, and provides clear guidance when a transcript is needed instead of a video link.

Why this matters
Teachers can now trust the tool to behave predictably— no unexpected question formats, language mismatches, or confusing outputs. This means less time troubleshooting and more time using video content to drive meaningful classroom discussion.

A cleaner, more mature look across MagicSchool

What’s new

We’ve updated our tool icons across the platform with a cleaner, more consistent design.

  • Replaced colorful, individual icons with a unified system

  • Icons now align to tool categories (not individual tools)

  • New color palette that’s more subtle, professional, and consistent

Why this matters

We heard your feedback: while MagicSchool is powerful, the visual design didn’t always reflect that, especially for older students and secondary classrooms.

This update improves:

  • Perceived professionalism

  • Usability and consistency

  • Comfort using MagicSchool in middle and high school environments

It’s the first step in a broader evolution of our design system, with more improvements coming soon.

Better math rendering in exports

What’s new

We’ve upgraded our document export engine to significantly improve how math renders in exported files. What you’ll see now:

  • Cleaner formatting for equations, systems, and complex expressions

  • Better support for LaTeX-generated content

  • More reliable exports across documents

Why this matters

If you’ve ever generated math content in MagicSchool only to see it break during export, you’re not alone. This has been a persistent frustration, especially for Math and STEM teachers creating content or assessments. With this update, what you generate is what you get. Your equations, expressions, and formatting now carry through cleanly into your final documents so you can trust your outputs from creation to classroom use.

MagicQuizzes 1.3: More control, better assessments

MagicQuizzes just got a major upgrade—giving teachers more control over how quizzes are built, delivered, and used after completion.

With MagicQuizzes 1.3, teachers can now edit quizzes with precision: add their own questions, reorder content, regenerate individual questions, and control when students receive feedback. These updates make it easier to move from AI-generated drafts to truly classroom-ready assessments.

We’ve also introduced “Next Steps” in the results dashboard—helping teachers quickly act on student performance with suggested follow-up tools and resources.

Why it matters:
Teachers loved the speed of MagicQuizzes—but needed more flexibility. This release turns quizzes from a static experience into a customizable, instruction-ready tool that supports both learning and assessment.

Improved Grade-Level Alignment for AI Responses

MagicSchool has improved how AI responses align with the grade level selected in tool settings. Updates to our system instructions for both student and teacher experiences help ensure that generated content better matches the intended reading level, complexity, and instructional needs of the selected grade.

This means teachers can expect outputs that are more developmentally appropriate for their students—making it easier to use AI-generated materials confidently in the classroom.

Admin Email Alerts Now Link Directly to Flagged Messages

For organizations using Advanced Moderation, admin email alerts for high-risk student messages now take you directly to the relevant conversation thread. Previously, alerts opened the general room list, making it harder to quickly review the flagged message and take action.

This update streamlines moderation workflows so administrators can quickly review context, respond appropriately, and maintain oversight of student activity. We’ve also improved internal logging to create a clearer audit trail of moderation reviews.

MagicStudent: Export Student & Teacher AI Conversations

Organization partners can now enable PDF exports of MagicStudent conversation threads for both students and teachers. When activated by your organization through your Customer Success Manager, students can download their full AI conversations and teachers can export student threads from rooms they manage.

This makes it easier to collect work for grading, store artifacts in district systems like Google Drive, or share conversations with administrators when needed. Exports include the instructional conversation between the student and AI while excluding internal moderation signals, helping schools maintain transparency around AI-assisted work while protecting privacy and safety systems.

Studio Mode in Raina Now Available to All Users

Studio Mode must be turned on using the Studio button in the chat each time it’s needed. Free users can edit and refine documents in Studio Mode across Raina, the Lesson Plan Generator, and the Worksheet Generator, while export and chat-based refinement features remain available to paid plans.

In addition, Studio Mode now supports graph rendering, allowing users to visualize certain outputs directly within the workspace.

Student AI chat disclosure and reminders

As part of our continued commitment to student safety, responsible AI use, and regulatory leadership, we’re rolling out new disclosures and reminders that clearly communicate to students that they are interacting with AI chatbots, not humans.

What changed:

  • We updated the disclaimer below the student chat bar to make it clear they are chatting with an AI.

    • “You’re chatting with AI, not a human. Chatbots may not suit all students. Check for accuracy, bias, and follow school policies.”

  • Every 15 minutes that a student is in a thread will trigger a dismissible alert banner to remind them that they are chatting with an AI and encourage them to take a break.

    • “Hey there! Just a reminder — I’m an AI program, not a human. If you’ve been chatting for a while, it might be a good time to take a quick break!”

  • We added a suitability warning for teachers in the share room modal to encourage them to monitor student use.

    • “AI chatbots support student learning but may not be appropriate for every learner. Please monitor students for appropriate and effective usage.”
