Available in: Enterprise — Org Admins only
As an Org Admin, you can set a schedule for when MagicStudent rooms are open across your entire district. Use it to close rooms overnight, on weekends, during school breaks, or over the summer — whatever makes sense for your district.
When rooms are closed, students see a paused screen. When the window ends, rooms automatically return to whatever state they were in before. Nothing is deleted or archived.
This setting applies to all rooms in your district at once. There is no way to target individual rooms or specific schools. And because rooms resume when the window ends rather than being permanently closed, this is not the right tool for archiving or cleaning up old rooms — but it works well for any scheduled closure, short or long.
📝 Note: If you leave everything off, rooms are always open. This feature does not do anything until you turn it on.
📋 What You Can Set
Days: every day, weekdays only, or a custom set of days.
Hours: a start and end time for each day. Overnight windows that cross midnight are supported.
Date range: a start and end date if you only want the schedule to apply for part of the year — useful for breaks or summer.
Time zone: one time zone applies to every school in the district.
🔗 How It Works with Teacher Room Scheduling
Teachers can already set hours on individual rooms. District hours and a teacher's room-level hours both have to say "open" for a student to get in. A teacher can make their room more restrictive, but cannot open it during a time your district hours mark as closed.
⚙️ How to Set It Up
Go to My Organization → Settings.
Find Student Room Hours and turn it on.
Choose which days apply.
Set your daily hours and date range if needed.
Select your district's time zone.
Review the summary line at the bottom of the section — it confirms exactly what you've set. For example: "Rooms are open Mon to Fri, 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM America/New_York, Sep 1, 2026 through Jan 1, 2027."
Click Save.
⚠️ Important: Changes take effect immediately, including for students already mid-session.
👁️ Where to Check Current Settings
Go to My Organization → Student Rooms. A read-only summary of your current hours appears above the rooms table, with a link to Settings to make changes.
